Title: Trying to go to Nursing School in California

Blog Entry: p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }a:link { } I want to go back to school and obtain a nursing license. I went to the State Licensing website to start my research. The first thing I did is eliminate all of the schools not in the Sacramento area. Then I eliminated all of the Community Colleges (due to the lottery entrance system for their nursing programs). So I was left with 4 private schools and 3 adult education programs for the LVN program. The prices I was able to obtain ranged from $19,200.00 to $44,877.00 The time to complete the programs ranged from 8 ½ months to 71 weeks. I came away shaking my head and with the following questions. 1. Why is a Certified Nursing License required prior to enternance to the Nursing program ? 2. Why is a CPR/First Aid Certification required prior to enternance to the Nursing program ? Do you not learn CPR & First Aid in Nursing School ? 3. Hospitals do not hire LVN's, LVN's only work in Nursing homes or private homes so why is obstertrics part of the programs ? 4. All of the programs are approved by the State of California so why are the programs not all the same ?
