I once thought that with the Clinton's in office and the budget deficit reversed into a surplus, our nation would prosper.

Then, I thought that with the Bush administration in office and the terrorists now running scared, our nation would prosper.

Now, I think with the Obama's in office and the near collapse of all the large corporations and the billions of dollars in bail out money, our nation will prosper.
Let me tell you why I think that is the case.

Every administration spends. We always have a deficit. We have never had any assets to offset those expenses. Here we pay out social security and medical, medicare, and every other social program, which will include national healthcare. What does this nation own? Where does its revenue come from?

Wouldn't it be nice to see a return on our money for a change? I tend to think that if deals like GM come around and the Federal Government can invest, get interest, ceate or retain jobs, and get stock, then we at least have some potential income. I don't expect the Federal Government to convert everything in Corporate America to socialism, but good investments that provide future benefits are at least promising. That future revenue may help secure our social programs. From an accountants point of view, it makes perfect sense.
