California Unemployment Claims Mishandled
OFFLINE

Posted On 11/27/2009 17:45:21 by CrockPotPatty

It is not just my own complaint but a general consensus that California's department EDD is mishandling the unemployment claims they are receiving. I myself filed a claim on October 9th. I had to wait until November 5 phone interview to be paid my 4 weeks. My claim expired on November 14th. EDD is withholding weeks ending November 7th and 14th and have not issued any additional claim forms because they are having me go through the phone interview process again. The earliest available appointment is December 9th, 2009.

If your landlord was okay with waiting for the rent check, that would be one thing. But, we all know that is not the case. If I am evicted I will not be able to find or rent another apartment. Imagine if the whole system was automated and there was no administrative overhead, there would be more money in the California unemployment fund and I would not suffer Financial Hardship because of the mishandling of my claim.

Just in case you don't know, they are too busy to take calls and when they do, they don't seem to have the authority to resolve issues. I was able to reach a supervisor Mr. Richardson. He claimed all the problems were due to new employees. (I think it is their training.) He gave me a call back number of 916-654-7401. He could not be reached at this number. I emailed 3 times and was never contacted by Mr. Richardson.

Who do we call to hold the administration accountable? A Class Action Attorney?
