In a crockpot add
1/4 cup dried vegetable flakes (these can be purchase in bulk at your grocery store).
4 cups of dried split peas.
1 onion coarsely chopped.
Cover the ingredients with water, then cover the top with aluminum foil, then the cover. Cook on high for 5 to 6 hours.
If you would like this a non vegetarian dish, add died ham.
