Frugal Ideas

Below is list of my top "SHORT TERM" frugal ideas. 1. Save those "Red plastic Folgers coffee cans and lids". These can be used to store pasta, beans, flour, sugar and other staples. 2. Place a "Red plastic Folgers coffee can" on the freezer and place all leftover vegetables in it, you can use these for soups and stews. 3. Stop using paper napkins and change to cloth. 4. Stop using paper towels and change to cloth. 5. Do you really need both a cell phone and a land line, cut the land line. 6. Turn down you heater, put on a sweater and add extra blankets to the bed. 7. Look at you cable bill and see if there is any premium channels you can delete. 8. Think about what you can cook with a pot of "Red Sauce", Spaghetti, Chili, Individual Pizzas on French Bread, Lasagna, Chili Mac, Sausage & Peppers, Salisbury Steak, 9. Think about what you can cook with a "Turkey", Turkey, Turkey Noodle Soup, Hot Turkey Sandwiches, Turkey Salad Sandwiches, Turkey Tetrazzini, Turkey Pot Pies, Turkey Enchiladas, Turkey Tortilla Soup, Turkey Subs, Turkey Burritos, Turkey Tacos, Turkey Stir Fry, with all of these things that can be made why not cook 2 Turkeys and spend the day after Thanksgiving cooking and freezing for future meals. 10. Stop purchasing connivence foods, You can make your own for a fraction of the cost. Purchase a large box of pancake mix and make and freeze waffles, purchase a large box of bisquick and make and freeze biscuits, make individual french bread pizzas and freeze, 11. Purchase in bulk when staple items are on sale. 12. Consider starting a "Dinner Club" where you and 6 other friends only cook 1 day per week but you cook for yourself and the other 6 families. 13. Have a garage sale, and unload all the un-needed items. 14. Wash dishes by hand vs the dishwasher, automatic dishwasher soap is a lot more expensive. 15. Purchase a "freezer" or better yet purchase 1/2 of a freezer with a friend or family member. 16. Purchase a "food vacuum system" or better yet purchase 1/2 of a freezer with a friend or family member. 17. Purchase fresh vegetables from the local farmer or farmers market in bulk and freeze. 18. Purchase meat in bulk when on sale. 19. Make your own bread, yes yeast is expensive however sourdough bread does not use a lot of yeast. Make the dough in bulk and freeze, thaw, let rise and bake. 20. Dry clothes on the line during the warm months. 21. Purchase "store brands" for additional savings. 22. Use manufacturers and store coupons. 23. Turn off the lights. Below is list of my top "LONG TERM" frugal ideas. 1. Purchase "Good" linens, good linens will last a long time, I have towels that are 7 years old and look as good as new. 2. Look at long term savings ideas, for example a wood stove will provide long term energy savings. 3. Consider getting a roommate. 4. Consider getting a P/T extra job. 5. Stop using Credit Cards. 6. Use the "envelope money management system", it is harder to send that $20.00 bill than use a check or atm card.
